"Au Clair de la Lune" is an 18th-century French folk song whose simple, stepwise melody has made it a favourite for beginning musicians for generations. Remarkably, an 1860 phonautograph recording of it is among the earliest known recordings of the human voice. Its clear phrasing makes it an ideal first piece for young pianists.
