This piano duet draws on themes from Zaporozhets za Dunayem (Cossack Beyond the Danube), composed by Semen Hulak-Artemovsky and premiered in 1863, widely regarded as the first Ukrainian opera. Its warm, folk-rooted melodies are a treasured part of Ukrainian musical heritage. Arranged for four hands, it makes a delightful piece for two players to share.
