"Mbube" was recorded in 1939 by South African singer Solomon Linda and his group, the Evening Birds; the Zulu word means "lion." The song's soaring vocal line later became the basis for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." This piano-solo arrangement honours one of Africa's most influential melodies.
