"Shchedryk" was composed in 1914 by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovytch, based on a traditional folk chant sung at the winter solstice. Its hypnotic four-note ostinato later became known worldwide as "Carol of the Bells," though the original is a Ukrainian New Year's song about a little swallow heralding a prosperous year. This arrangement sets the beloved melody for violin and piano.
