About This Original Work
Dreams is an original piano composition by Iryna Martynova that explores the mysterious and fleeting nature of the dream world through music. Drawing on both Romantic and Impressionistic traditions, the piece creates an atmospheric soundscape that mirrors the logic of dreams, shifting between clarity and ambiguity, familiarity and strangeness.
Musical Language
The composition employs lyrical melodic writing combined with rich harmonic colors, creating textures that evoke the fluid, non-linear experience of dreaming. Influences from both Eastern European folk music and French Impressionism blend to form a distinctive contemporary voice.
Performance Notes
While written for intermediate pianists, Dreams rewards interpretive depth and attention to color. The piece calls for sensitive pedaling, careful balance between melody and accompaniment, and an imaginative approach to phrasing. Think of each section as a different dream sequence: some peaceful and nostalgic, others more turbulent and mysterious.
Composer's Note
As both a performer and pedagogue, I wanted to create a piece that would be technically accessible while offering genuine artistic substance. Dreams invites pianists to explore their interpretive instincts and develop their sense of musical storytelling. The work is suitable for recitals, competitions, or simply as a vehicle for personal musical expression.
